Inward

You are Tender Ostra-2, a hacker android sent into the minds of four captured Sower machines. Each mind is a grid of rooms full of shots: shoot down the white ones, phase-dash through the red ones. Every room you clear dissolves its bullets into letters, and the letters spell one line of what the machine was trying to become.

At the bottom of the last mind is the Grandmother. She has kept the kettle on for nine hundred years, and she will ask you to stay.

**Mac:** the first time, macOS will block the game because it isn't notarised. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". I don't have a Mac to test with, so please tell me in the comments whether it runs.
